As we explore these farms, we'll celebrate the spirit of the Guernsey cow and the remarkable qualities that make her truly exceptional. 

Flora Farm Guenseys
The Van Patter Family

Jim and Linda Van Patter have a Guernsey herd that resides at Nehl’s Brothers in Juneau, Wis. Their goal is to develop elite genetics generation after generation. Genomic testing is a key tool used at Flora Farm to help identify the best animals. This allows them to stay at the top of the breed genetically and speed up the generation interval to maximize improvement.

Gurn-Z Meadow Farm
The Orchard Family

Gurn-Z Meadow Farm is home to 150 Guernsey and Holstein cows on a 1,000-acre farm in Columbus, Wis. Cows are milked with Lely robots. The Orchards use cream from their cows to make artisan butter under the Royal Guernsey Creamery brand.

The Dinderman Family

Joining the tours from Orangeville, Ill., the Dindermans have a herd of Guernseys, Holsteins and Ayrshires. “Breeding good cows in many colors” is the slogan of the farm. They milk in a tie-stall barn, but like to use their freestalls as well as pasture for housing. They farm 150 acres of primarily corn and alfalfa.

The Knox Family

Hoard's Dairyman is home of the largest and longest continually registered Guernsey herd in the United States. The farm showcases a state-of-the-art facility in Fort Atkinson, Wis., dedicated to dairy research and innovation. In 2018, they began using their milk to make cheese under the Hoard's Dairyman Farm Creamery brand.

The Dorn Families

The Dorn families farms 700 acres and milk 65 cows in a tie-stall barn in New Glarus, Wis. Creating cows that hold up to the test of time are what the Dorns strive for in their breeding program. Longevity and good feet and legs are top qualities the Dorns look for as they continually try to improve their herd’s genetics.

The Haag Family

Located in Dane, Wis. the Haags milk 115 cows on a 200-acre farm. Their Guernseys and Holsteins are milked in a state-of-the-art DeLaval robotic milking system. They raise all their replacements and sell approximately 50 cows a year to other farms for their replacements.
